Peter
Cornog is an artist working in both wood and photography. He creates abstract
sculptures and hand carved burl bowls in hardwoods including cherry, walnut,
oak, beech, maple, and apple. He is a self-taught carver, progressing from
early work using a set of inherited carving tools to large-scale work carved
with the chainsaw. He locates and cuts the logs and burls that he uses for his
work. His finished works accentuate both the form and proportions of the piece
complemented by the surface patterns of grain or figure. His work celebrates
wood’s beauty and diversity as a medium.
Peter
has sold his work over the years in art galleries in the Philadelphia area,
Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod, and to individual collectors. He has displayed
his work in group shows in art centers in the region including Woodmere,
Chester County, Cheltenham, Greater Norristown, and the Whitemarsh Community
Art Center. His work has been exhibited in a two-person show at the Wharton
Esherick Museum in Paoli, Pennsylvania.
Peter
resides in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania. He is a licensed social worker
supervising community residential
services for cognitively disabled adults as well as an outpatient
psychotherapist for children and adolescents. He is married and has two teenage
daughters.
