Via figurative realism, I combine women, couture and idealistic scenarios with the sea and the life it supports. In this new body of work, the female form takes center stage, ornamented with sea life and coastal fauna. The work tells stories of uncanny situations inspired by life on the coastal waters of the ocean.
“Anchorless” refers to an endless drifting of ideas with no expectancy of a clear destination. The paintings exhibited are rendered in oil to further the exploration of my mood-driven work by continuing to capture an organic, lifelike portrayal of the human relationship with the sea. To illustrate an imaginative journey imbued with fashionable sensibilities, and in order to escalate the illogical, I have created strange and wondrous imagery to convey feelings that may be experienced while floating aimlessly at sea.
The show represents a drifting notion of the probable and the impossible. The bewitching women adorned with peculiar bibelots in absurd circumstances insert magic into an ordinary coastal world. Whether bedecked with a crab choker (She Crab), or strolling through the wetlands while walking a pelican (Practical Birdkeeping), the compelling uncertainty of the sea becomes fodder for the imagination.
