Having been exposed to the sea from a very young age, it has become the force in my life; it continually fuels my imagination, inspiring me to record its many moods in oils.
In A life by the Sea, the paintings are a record of many contemplative walks that I take to gain perspective in my life and to restore my identity as an individual and an artist. During my walks, I’m constantly processing the scenery, visually translating the light and images into paint.
As progression evolves on a painting, a reflective story unfolds in my imagination that is subtly revealed to the viewer in the form of texture and light. In other paintings, such as Apparitions, I choose to do a more literal depiction of my fanciful thoughts by incorporating a surrealistic approach. What appears as actual dead sea-life in the sand is only there in my imagination and revealed to me as spiritual shapes created by the wind.
Everyday subjects take on more depth as I work on them, it’s all part of the artists’ journey, as my paintings are viewed by the public, my time creating a painting ends and goes on to be appreciated differently; the stories that I create in paint from inspired walks along the sea, I hope will inspire chapters for the viewer.
