Second Nature is defined as an acquired habit or tendency in one’s character that is so deeply ingrained as to appear automatic.
Applying the term to my life I can say that creating art (particularly painting) is my “second nature” ~ I have been drawing and painting as long as I can remember, rarely a day goes by that I am not wearing paint spattered clothing, with paint in my hair, sitting at my easel or, if not, I’m mentally conceiving a new idea for a work of art. When it comes to subject matter animals and nature are nearly always my first choice! I am drawn to color and patterns; the stripes on a fish, the designs of a seashell or the bright colors of particular birds are all fascinating to me. The backgrounds of my work play a big part of the image; it is where you can see how I have been influenced by my career as a decorative painter, I like to experiment with metallic paints, found objects or crusty paint peelings! It is important to me to have fun while I’m creating; I hope it shows in my work to you, the viewer.
