Richard Samuelson Artist Statement:
Crescendos, reaching for the stars, the inevitable crashes back to earth--these rhythms are so inescapably at the core of the human experience that as an artist I can't help seek idioms, signs and symbols to express them in my work.
Yet these very sorts of progressions, which come so naturally to music, seem to be something abstract art can't quite wrap its head around.
With new ideas and techniques, I hope to begin to bridge this gap.
So kindly, follow the progressions of forms, marks and colors--The "Notes and melodies"--as they ascend and develop and see if they begin to join into interwoven patterns of flesh and experience that have the power to tell stories and speak to you with meaning and feeling.
