“Sand and Seasons”
Artist Statement – Evelyn Dolan
Over the past year, I have been inspired by the changes of nature in Cape May and surrounding areas as the seasons progress. I like to paint what I see around me and tend to visualize a painting with almost every turn of my head.
I combined my love of sparkle with the awakening of budding flowers and the nesting instinct in “Joyous Spring.” In sharp contrast, but just as beautiful in my eyes, are the generations of prehistoric horseshoe crabs instinctively drawn to our shores in “May’s Gathering.”
I wanted “Summer Heartbeat” to swell with the power and essence of the summer season, turbulent and unending, unlike “August Offerings” which encourages a lazy summer day of grazing.
As the days become cooler, color explodes and Mother Nature provides wonderful bounty as fruits are picked and displayed in “Fall Harvest.”
Even an uninvited storm provides powerful compositions of muted grays which I tried to capture in “Angry Bay.”
Every season has a special meaning to me, and I cannot wait for the cycle to begin again.
