The landscape along the coast inspires me every day. I mostly find it to be joyful with sunny days and beautiful beaches. Sometimes though, it can be brooding with dark skies over rough seas. Each beautiful in its own way, my goal is to capture the spirit of what I see. Grounded with an element that is recognizable I always want my work to be relatable to everyone.
This show, which I have titled “Moments Well Spent” is a visual diary of my days at the beach. Some days are escape days, where I use softer pastel colors to create calming spaces to ease the mind. Some days are contemplative reflective days where my paintings have more energy and conflict. And some days are just enjoyable where I balance soft and bright colors on the canvas. I work in acrylic paint because it dries faster as layers upon layers of paint is used to achieve depth. I use palette knives for the smoothness and replication of vastness it creates across the canvas. And for this series I used a high gloss white paint because it reminded me of saltwater taffy. I think we all have these moments and time spent by the sea are “Moments Well Spent”.
