Rye Tippett – Artist Statement
Out to the windy beach and maybe seeing things we haven’t noticed before, circling slowly at night above our heads as we laugh and hold hands in the dark. Our spirits are always there with us, and I feel they are mostly always smiling , an unseen juxtaposition that can only be felt that makes us want to laugh. Our stories tell about what we saw in our dreams around the camp fire.
The paintings in this show have humor and wonder in them, stuck in the oil that made them. I sing to them, I tell stories, I dance when I work, I treat them as living things.
I could talk about glazing and toned under paintings and how I’m self-taught in my technique, but feel that takes away from the imagery.
I’m inviting you to have a little fun.
I’m inviting you to a day at the "Submarine Races"...
