Theme of Exhibit: Exploring color in the landscape…..
I would characterize my style as contemporary with aspects of impressionism. I am greatly inspired by the elements of color and the idea of uniquely capturing color and light. This inspiration is evident in my work. Painting with pastels permits the artist to apply direct color in its purest form to the piece, allowing for a certain vibrancy and optical blending to prevail. This is what initially drew me to pastel as a medium and I so often find myself fully immersed in the process of color application to create the desired outcome.
The works in this exhibit are all dry pastel paintings meant to reflect the vibrant color that exists all around us. The subject matter is mostly landscapes and perspectives that spoke to me, both locally, Cape May and along the southern New Jersey coastline, as well as other areas of the country.
